Start with the noise, not the material
Record what you hear, in which room, at what times and where it seems to enter. Voices or television usually pose a different problem from footsteps, moving furniture, traffic or vibration from building services. This first description prevents “soundproof the flat” from becoming a vague line item and producing proposals that address different nuisances.
Find the transmission path
Sound can pass through the element separating two homes, but it can also travel around it through floors, partitions, suspended ceilings, ducts, electrical boxes or poorly sealed junctions. Before choosing an independent lining, ask a technician to inspect the source room, receiving room and junctions; when justified, measurements help establish the starting point and the intended outcome.
Define a complete, verifiable solution
The Spanish Building Code’s DB-HR sets out rules and procedures for protection against noise, while its official guide covers insulation, acoustic conditioning, building-services noise, workmanship and checks, including clarification for existing buildings. The exact application depends on the renovation scope. Ask the proposal to identify layers, thicknesses, junctions, service penetrations and finishes, not merely the trade name of an insulation product.
Make the quotes comparable
Give every company the same plan, surface areas and diagnosis. Each quote should separate demolition, the acoustic system, relocation of sockets or radiators, reinstatement of finishes, waste, access equipment and, if planned, final checks. Also review the loss of usable space, excluded work and how changes uncovered during opening-up will be handled.
What to prepare before making contact
Gather the municipality, type and approximate size of the home, an existing plan, photographs of rooms and junctions, a short noise timeline and any known earlier alterations. State the priority areas, whether the home will remain occupied and which finishes you want to keep. Giving everyone the same information makes it easier to request acoustic-renovation quotes that address the actual problem.
Shape the renovation you imagine.
Explain what you want to change, the approximate floor area and municipality. We help you find renovation companies so you can compare proposals with a clear scope.
